Frequently asked questions
Anki can already import CSV files. Why use this tool?
Anki’s importer asks you to set the separator, the encoding and the field mapping, and it doesn’t open Excel files. Here you see the cards before downloading, and the deck imports with a double-click.
What about Google Sheets?
Select your two columns, copy them and paste them into the text field. You can also download the sheet as .xlsx or .csv from the File menu.
My table has more than two columns.
Just pick the front and back columns: the others are ignored. Only the first sheet of an Excel workbook is read.
Accented characters look broken.
CSV files saved by Excel on Windows are detected automatically. If characters still look wrong, save the file as “CSV UTF-8” or as .xlsx.
Is my data sent anywhere?
The file is read in your browser. When you download, only the two chosen columns are sent to our server long enough to build the deck, then discarded.
